If you are ready to hear the facts from someone who was in your situation 20 years ago and has the same amount of hair, possibly slightly more now, you have come to the right place. Also, it will not be easy but if you feel like you are up to the challenge why don't we get started.
Just last weekend my good-natured neighbor who has all the signs of advanced male pattern baldness decided that the dreaded horse shoe look was not for him and shaved his head. It actually looked good and I told him that I always thought I would have to make that decision. He asked why and I responded by telling him that I had all the signs of genetic male pattern baldness (bald spot on the crown, thinning on top, etc...) almost 20 years ago and have not only been able to stem the tide but actually added a little hair.
You would have thought he had just experienced electroshock therapy as he went speechless. He wondered why he hadn't done something before now, because now was too late.
While over the last 20 years I have tried almost everything imaginable including a few things that when looking back were quite humorous what I have learned is that when it comes to slowing, or reversing, male or female pattern balding the goal is not complicated but achieving it certainly is.
When a person first notices hair loss they are well on their way to baldness. In fact, I would estimate that when most people first notice balding and thinning they have lost 20,000 hairs out of a possible 100,000. The number could be even higher if we were to gauge it from the time they finally decided to do something about it.
In the world of balding and thinning hair time is not on your side and early action to slow the progression is paramount to success.
Permanent hair loss is nothing more than the follicle shrinking to a point where it can no longer participate in the hair replacement cycle. Once the follicles dies say goodbye to that hair forever! On occasion it is not quite that grim since there might be a few hair follicles which are on life support and can be revived if action is taken earlier rather than later.
So what we have to do is protect what we have and salvage what is salvageable. Some will point to Minoxidil as the answer. For me it was not!
Minoxidil is chemical originally used for blood pressure management. Initially, I showed good results but about 4 months after starting Minoxidil I developed a sensitivity to this harsh chemical compound and was forced to discontinue its use.
To slow balding one simple truth is that you will need to halt, or at least slow, the accumulation of DHT (dihydrotestosterone). It is the substance that causes follicles to shrink and die. There are quite a few natural products which can do this with most including saw palmetto and nettle root.
My personal experience is while this will help it will not be enough. On the other hand when DHT blockers are combined with scalp circulation and rejuvenation topical formulas the chances for success improve exponentially.
Additionally, in order to improve your chances for success make sure to only wash your hair every other day, avoid harsh shampoos and coloring formulas, drink plenty of water, and eat a balanced diet high in Vitamin B12, biotin, and folic acid.
