Does smoking cause hair loss? That's the question you need to be asking yourself if you smoke and you suffer from male pattern baldness.

So, does it have an effect? Yes it does. It has an effect on your blood supply and your circulatory system.

Because nicotine creates an increase in your adrenaline which then causes an increase in blood pressure.

There have been studies that show that smoking is linked to hair loss. A study conducted in Italy showed that smoke had a negative effect on the hair of mice.

After the mice in the study were exposed to cigarette smoke for 3 months they began to show alopecia (hair loss) and grey hair (so not only does smoke cause your hair to fall out it also can make you prematurely grey).

So the bottom line is that there is a connection between cigarettes and hair loss. Now, there are many different causes of hair loss such as testosterone conversion into DHT (which is the most common cause of male pattern baldness), illness, and environmental factors so if you are suffering from hair loss you should see a doctor.

However, not only is smoking bad for your hair but it's bad for your entire body. It contains more than 4,000 toxins and wreaks havoc on your immune system (among other things).

Your best bet is to just quit smoking altogether, exercise, and focus on eating a healthy diet.

Not only will this make your body healthy but it will also make your hair healthy!

Foods That Make Your Hair and Body Healthy

You need proteins and vitamins to make your hair, skin, and body healthy. Foods such as Salmon are chock-full of vitamins and fatty acids that your skin and hair feed off of.

Also look to get plenty of dark green vegetables like broccoli, chard, and spinach.

More foods that are good for your hair and body:
1. Nuts (walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, pecans)
2. Eggs
3. Oysters
4. Beans (legumes, kidney beans, lentils, etc)
5. Poultry (chicken and turkey)
6. Whole grains (whole-wheat bread, breakfast cereals, etc.)
7. Low-fat dairy products (skim milk, yogurt, etc.)
8. Carrots

So not only should you quit smoking but you should focus on eating right and exercising. This will not only make your skin and hair look better but it will also make you feel better and slow down the signs of aging.
